We found a nice little beach area that was totally secluded on a Friday evening where we let the dogs run around. You will have to park at a closed gate and walk a half mile to the trailhead. My 6-year old did well, but got tired on the way back. The entrance was closed so you have to park outside the campground.
READ D.W. BELOW REVIEW FROM 2018. Easy walk Scenery was ok. Road to Chawanakee was closed so we couldn't do the hike. the day pass we more than enjoyed the time spent at the shaver's lake and kicked off the day with this trail around 10am.
Great little hike! At first we walked past it because there is no sign and didn’t look like the beginning of a trail. Also, don't be a douche and chuck cans or bottles off of the lift, you'll ruin it for the rest of us who like to booze it up responsibly! It is mostly level with some great views of the lake and the mountain. Great little hike to do with the family. We were able to drive in to the trailhead and park our car there. The trail is wide enough to walk side by side with someone. There were lots of beautiful wildflowers and Meadows that you could see from the trail. started to heat up with very little breeze but once we got to the lake it felt amazing and some nice shaded areas. Another party left when they seen it was not a public camp ground. Very scenic and easy to hike. Will definitely bring my 4 little kids back here again. more.

Great day!!! 07/12/20 Shavers Lake Trail is a 1.6 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Snowshoe, West Virginia that features a lake and is good for all skill levels. Saw lots of deer on the peninsula. Good for kids and older adults. We were there for three hours and only saw one other couple on the trail. A few families were water skiing...Fun to watch. Relaxing and beautiful forest, roots and moss for half the hike. Was a 2 mile stroll to the lake. It can get a bit dusty once you get to the dirt trail. It was 5:15 when we were leaving and the last workman was about to lock the gate.
Kids had a lovely time, views are great, trail is decent-ly maintained sith muddy spost, but lots of fern and moss - which kids loved collecting. Some interesting terrain and muddy in places but gorgeous. Parking is limited so get there early. Just a small pull off to park the car and a metal gate at the start of the trail. The weather was perfect today. Grab a bite and a brew from the Boathouse where you can sit back on the deck overlooking the water and enjoy the cool mountain breeze. Be sure to take towels and snacks and water.... FYI, no toilets.
The map actually only shows the lake trail (1.6 miles around the lake). Huntington Lake is just 16 miles further up the road at 7,000'. Shaver Lake Trail [CLOSED] is a 5.3 kilometer lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Shaver Lake, California that features a lake and is good for all skill levels. Scenery was very great (although the first bit had burnt logs scattered throughout). The mapped route on this page has the hiker starting at the closed gate. Really easy and nice. Bail Out is worth it for the fire tower views. The trail is not that steep. CHAWAWNAKEE We were bummed! The trail entrance was close to vehicle entering, but you can still walk into the trail. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and trail running. Nordic Ski Trails That's the trailhead. My boyfriend and I visit Snowshoe every year for the chili cookoff and one of the things we look forward to is taking the lift down to Shavers Lake, and then riding the lift back up, and then taking the lift down again, and then back up... We just like riding the lift a whole. The trail marker and trail is not extremly well highligted like in a national park, but fairly easy to figure out, just talk to someone down at the lake before you head out if doing this early morning. It had plenty of shade and we were walking on soft dirt majority of the way. Beach access in a secluded area, but small beaches. Afterwards, you can snack at the Boathouse. Not sure if it's just closed for the season or what. We ended up taking our jogger stroller and it did fine most of the way. Hiking Trails Around Shaver Lake There are approximately 35 miles of Multi-Purpose Hiking, Mountain biking and Horse riding trails on Edison land around Shaver Lake. There were a few times when we had to pick it up to carry it over the rocks. We also took our four year old Maltese and she loved it out there too.
It takes about 30 minutes each way. The climate is ideal, with cool summers and mild winters. It’s 1.3 miles up and 1.3 back down and you’re going up hill making this a much more strenuous hike. To get to the lake you need to come off the tarmac road and take the dusty road off to the right. AT stroller recommended(last 100ft not stroller accessible) We load up a small backpack cooler with a few bevvies, hop on the lift, and kick back to watch the mountain bikers fly down the mountain. There was patches of snow but did fine with tennis shoes. Really nice trail. Then we wander around the lake for a bit and repeat the process over and over until we either run out of beer or get hungry. It was summer so we could ride Ballhooter Lift down to the lake and back. PEACEFUL ! Hike was about 30 minutes and the swimming in Shaver was peaceful. The hike down to the lake was simple.
We really enjoyed the hike. It did get slippery and we all had a tumble or 2.

The Boathouse is cool if you need a potty break, snacks or drinks down at the lake. Good short hike along a dirt fire road. Went last weekend. I would do this again. Located just an hours drive from Fresno, the Shaver Lake sits at an elevation of 5,500′elevation.
See park page for more information. We took this hike in the morning. Bailout breaks off this trail and goes up the mountain opposite Snowshoe and takes you to a fire tower and amazing views.
