The Social Implications of White Identity. Attention is more than a personal matter; it has many collective forms, as well as biological dimensions. Saying Socially Constructed is Not Enough. As Andrew Whiten and Kevin Laland et al explain, the presence of social learning as well as âtraditions and other culturally related phenomenaâ among nonhumans has âproved to be far more widespread across the animal kingdom than imagined a half-century ago and more complex in their manifestationsâ (2011: 938). This course examines how and why these forms of identity matter so intensely, both in this country and around the world.
