Got this book for grandchild to read prior to attending Broadway production. As Eponine dies in Marius’s arms, she hands him a letter from Cosette. We meet Marius, a student (Luca Heard, Year 13), Eponine, now grown (Millie Elliot, Year 12), the street urchin, Gavroche (Axel Bostock, Year 9) and Enjolras, the student leader, a role powerfully delivered by Harrison Griffiths (Year 12). The orchestra did a superb job working with a difficult score to provide the backing. While they are perhaps too young to understand all the many themes and actions in the play, Matt Larsen’s Children’s Edition will give them a huge head start in grasping both story and themes.
