Great, easy trail not too far from Denver. We will attempt the actual trail this review is for another time. We really enjoyed our abbreviated hike. You will find a variety of flowers and mushrooms just off the trail for some great photos. NOT OKAY! But it seems it was there for the raccoons — the National Park Service says coyotes help regulate the number of small rodents, skunks and raccoons. Change ).

Soon the trail heads into the woods and the difficulty increases to moderate – it is rockier but nothing to strenuous.

The twelve trails at Golden Gate Canyon are each named after an animal and marked with the animal's footprint. I’m from the east coast (the land of maple trees) and the aspens did not disappoint!
There was definite evidence of moose rubbings on trees so be aware!

Comments: This is our first visit to Golden Gate Canyon State Park. It’s easy to get confused on these trails though, especially since they cross roads and stuff so I recommend downloading the map before getting out there because there’s no service once you get into the mountains. While there are many ways to link trails in Golden Gate Canyon State Park, this loop provides some of the best views of the Continental Divide while immersing hikers in a sea of aspens. Trail head parking areas are easily accessible from the main roads in the park.

There is good trailrunning on the east, less-trafficked side of the park. • We wanted 10+ miles so we decided to take the Blue Grouse trail to the Mule Deer Loop.
We opted to turn back for safety reasons and did not make it to Frazer meadow.
