He reached the outskirts of Ackia on the 24 March. On and off over the following years, the French successfully reignited the Indian conflict. On 1 December 1734 France’s minister of marine, Jérôme Phélypeaux de Maurepas, conveyed Louis XV’s authorization to destroy the Chickasaw and to do it soon, because peace with England might not last much longer. The French immediately received 'a shower of balls' from the Chickasaw fortifications, and the mantelets proved to be ineffective. Dartaguiette, with some 140 French and 266 northern Indians, left Fort de Chartres (about forty miles below present St. Louis) on 22 February 1736 and reached the Fourth Chickasaw Bluff (part of then Prud’homme Bluffs), just north of present downtown Memphis, six days later.

"Thunder Arm", was a French soldier, explorer, and colonizer who assisted René-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle with North American exploration and colonization from 1678–1686. She was forced to leave Massachusetts in 1637. In a coordinated attack on the fort and the homesteads, the Natchez killed almost all of the Frenchmen, while sparing most of the women and African slaves.

In 1797, a general appraisal of the tribe and its territorial bounds was made by Abraham Bishop of New Haven, who wrote: The English government was using Chickasaw-English relations to weaken France’s hold on the Mississippi Valley and thus threatening its entire North American empire. But now the would-be attackers could not locate the vital Memphis-Pontotoc-Mobile Trail to Ackia. Quickly fortifying a base camp to protect the supplies and boats, essential for its return, the army departed on May 24 for the nearest Chickasaw village, located about 20 miles across the prairie to the northwest. Maurepas reconfirmed the king’s consent in December and authorized Bienville’s proposed expedition. After agitating the Indians by demanding that they give up either their village or their land, the Indians launched an attack on November 29, 1729, and killed nearly three hundred persons at Fort Rosalie. The French were crushed, and d'Artaguiette was killed.
